When you get to the point that you either want to upgrade your current car or the old car has passed the point of no return, its worth considering some of the following points to help in your decision to buy a new used car, whether it's a used c class Mercedes with plush leather interior or an old restored white escort with fluffy dice.

Before you buy......

Narrow down what you want. If you have a family do you need four doors to allow you access to the rear child seat? How much room do you need? An estate car can deal with children and dogs and still be used for a business. Do you need to keep costs low? If so look at the small side of the market with mini eco cars providing 2 seater maneuverability at a minimum of the cost.

A new car depreciates massively as soon as you pay for it, whereas a used car holds a better price and is therefore a better purchase for the discerning buyer. Before you visit any forecourt ensure you know what finance you are going to be able to afford. So in the case of that lovely C class Mercedes it might be worth speaking to Mercedes financing, because often in house financing can offer extra benefits that you might not get if financed from outside. In all instances read the fine print and make sure that you know how much you will be paying back each month and that you will have that spare after all the other household bills have gone out.

You may have to pay slightly more for a car through trade, but it then offers you come back to that trader. Unlike the 'as seen' private sale that offer you very little in the way of come back, or up holdable guarantees. Make sure you have checked out the review guides, that are available in most newsagents so you know how much that car should actually be worth.
